History

Saratoga City Ballet was founded in 1994 by Patti Pugh Moore. Ms. Moore was the Director from 1994 to 2003.  Saratoga City Ballet's first Nutcracker was presented at the Skidmore Dance Theater in December of 1993 and since then, our students have continued to perform in this beloved favorite.

Eve Whelchel and Julie Gedalecia were appointed artistic directors in 2003 and were committed to maintaining the high standards that Saratoga City Ballet has been known for.  They created full-length original ballets such as “Little Red Riding Hood”,  “Snow White”, “Hansel & Gretel”, “Carnival of the Animals”, and “Alice in Wonderland”, as well as revived classics like “Coppelia”, “Pas de Quatre”, “Sleeping Beauty” and “Les Sylphides”.

In 2014, Eve and Julie retired. The Board of Directors relocated the school to our current location and Vanessa Viscusi served as School Director from 2014 - 2017 and directed our students in "The Nutcracker", "Mother Goose" and more. Our current School Director, Siobhan Dunham, is continuing Saratoga City Ballet's commitment of providing dancers with professional quality instruction and performance opportunities and instilling in them a lifelong love of ballet and the arts. Mrs. Dunham has directed our students in several productions including "Swan Lake", "Sleeping Beauty" and "Mid Summers Night Dream".

Our students have attended summer intensives such as the School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Pittsburgh Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Carolina Ballet, Ballet Austin, Boston Ballet and more. Many of our former students continue to dance in college and with professional companies.
