Main Division training focuses on proper alignment, purity of line and musicality.  Our students are trained in traditional Vaganova technique and introduced to other styles such as Balanchine and Bournonville.  Once dancers reach the advanced level they are exposed to a wide variety of disciplines in our workshop class including Graham and Limon modern technique, jazz, pilates, classical character dance, yoga, tap, and music.  SCB's diverse program prepares our students to easily transition from the classroom to intensive summer and university dance programs across the country.

Main Division class placements are not based on age nor previous dance training. All students will be assigned to a class level where their instructors feel they will make the most progress. A placement class is required for new students. Level promotion is not made according to age or years of study, but by physical development, technical ability and a motivated work ethic.

Students should expect to spend at least one year at each level, increasing their class load as they progress higher in the school. End of the year evaluations are given to each student with recommendations for next year's classes . Dancers taking the recommended number of classes per week should expect a faster rate of progress. Ages given are approximations.
